Est. 1926 · 18 holes · Par 72 · 6,906 yds · Rating/Slope 62.4 / 108 · One of Colombia’s oldest golf clubs
Country Club de Barranquilla is one of Colombia’s oldest golf institutions, founded in 1926. The current layout was substantially renewed by Jemsek Golf Design beginning in 2011 under a long-term Master Plan, with a major greens renovation completed in 2018. The course stretches 6,906 yards across classic Caribbean parkland: wide, forgiving fairways, mature tree lines, and views overlooking the Caribbean Sea from several holes.

The Course
The Jemsek renovation modernized drainage, improved turf conditions, and reshaped several greens without losing the course’s 1920s country-club character. It’s the kind of course that rewards smart course management — the yardage suggests length, but the real defense is in positioning and approach angles.
History
Country Club de Barranquilla is the only Colombian golf institution that predates the country’s professional golf circuit by decades. The club has been a constant in Barranquilla’s social and sporting life since 1926, hosting national amateur events and serving as a key development course for Colombian golfers for nearly a century.
How It Plays
Sea level — normal ball flight. Like all Caribbean-coast courses, wind off the coast is the main variable. The Magdalena River adds local variability: breezes from the river direction differ from the ocean winds, and the two can combine unpredictably on the holes closest to the coastline.
Bermuda fairways, renovated greens running firm and medium-fast. The 2018 greens work made conditions notably better than the pre-renovation era.
Location & Access — 2 Hours from Cartagena
Country Club de Barranquilla is in Barranquilla, roughly 2 hours by road from Cartagena. For a Cartagena-based golf trip, it’s a reasonable half-day addition: early tee time, round, lunch, drive back to Cartagena. Alternatively, many visiting golfers pair a Barranquilla round with a Lagos de Caujaral round on the same day (both clubs are within 30 minutes of each other in the Barranquilla metropolitan area) before returning to Cartagena.
Barranquilla has its own international airport (Ernesto Cortissoz — BAQ), and some visitors fly in and out of BAQ directly rather than via Cartagena. If you’re in Barranquilla during Carnival (February), the city is a destination in its own right.
The club is private. Visiting play is arranged through reciprocal arrangements or IAGTO-affiliated operators.
Practical Notes
Caddie mandatory. Carts available. The combination of Country Club de Barranquilla + Lagos de Caujaral on a single day trip from Cartagena is the most common way visiting golfers play both courses without extending the overall trip.
