Tournament Organization in Cartagena — Caribbean-Coast Golf Events

We organize golf tournaments in Cartagena and the Caribbean coast region — for corporate clients, member associations, and private organizers who want a tournament-grade event without managing the operational side themselves. Cartagena is well suited to it: three championship courses within an hour of the walled city, year-round playable conditions, and a hospitality infrastructure built for international visitors.

What Tournament Organization Includes

A full-service tournament package in Cartagena typically covers:

  • Venue contract — exclusive or shotgun-start access negotiated with the host course
  • Tournament format design — stroke play, scramble, best-ball, or stableford structures matched to player mix
  • Scoring & handicap administration — pre-event handicap verification, on-course scoring support, real-time leaderboard if required
  • Registration system — player intake, pairing assembly, scorecard preparation
  • On-course operations — starter, marshals, halfway-house catering, on-course beverages, photography
  • Prize structure — coordination of prizes (gross/net winners, longest drive, closest to pin), ceremony planning
  • Hospitality — welcome reception the night before, post-round awards dinner, sponsor activation areas if applicable
  • Player logistics — hotel block negotiation, transfers from hotel to course, club rental coordination, spouse / non-golfer programming

Venue Options for Tournament Play

Three Cartagena-area courses are suitable for full tournament play, each with a different operational profile:

Karibana Beach Golf — the championship venue

The Nicklaus design at Karibana is the Caribbean coast’s top tournament venue. 7,116 yards from the back tees, sea-level conditions, full resort infrastructure including practice range, short-game area, and clubhouse capable of handling award ceremonies for 100+ guests. On-site accommodation simplifies multi-day player logistics. Hosted Korn Ferry Tour events in its early TPC years and the 2019 Colombian Open.

Club Campestre de Cartagena — traditional country-club venue

The closest course to the walled city (20–25 min) and the most intimate tournament setting in Cartagena. Mature parkland design, traditional clubhouse, and a setting that works well for member-style invitational tournaments where the post-round atmosphere matters as much as the golf.

Lagos de Caujaral — Barranquilla satellite option

Two hours from Cartagena in Barranquilla. The Joe Lee design with its Island Green 6th hole gives a tournament a memorable signature moment. Practical only for events where Barranquilla itself is the base (or as a second-round venue in a two-course tournament).

Typical Tournament Formats

One-day corporate scramble (32–72 players)

The most common format. Shotgun start, 4-person scramble, ~5 hours of play, lunch on the back nine or post-round, evening prize ceremony. Mixed-handicap groups handled by team balance rather than handicap calculation.

Two-day invitational (40–80 players)

Stroke play or stableford over two rounds. Common structure: Day 1 at Karibana, Day 2 at Club Campestre, awards dinner Day 2 evening in the walled city. Strongest format for sponsor activation and member appreciation events.

Three-day destination tournament

Full destination programme: Day 1 arrival + welcome dinner, Day 2 round one + walled city night, Day 3 final round + awards. Often paired with a Rosario Islands rest day or walled city cultural day for non-golfer companions.

Pricing & Lead Time

Tournament pricing is structured per player, with separate scoping for sponsorship infrastructure, hospitality scale, and prize budget. A tournament-grade event typically requires 6–9 months of advance planning — that’s the timeline needed to secure exclusive course access in high season (December–March), negotiate hotel blocks for 40+ guests, and lock in the supporting programme.

Smaller corporate scrambles (16–36 players, single day) can be turned around in 3–4 months. See corporate golf days for that scale.

Why Cartagena for a Tournament

  • International access — Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) takes direct flights from Miami, Panama, Madrid, Bogotá and other Latin American hubs.
  • Year-round playable — Caribbean coast climate means tournaments can run any month, with December–March the peak window.
  • Walled city evenings — the post-round programme practically writes itself: UNESCO-listed walled city for dinners and receptions, no other venue logistics needed.
  • Player experience — for North American and European players, Cartagena is a destination tournament in a place most haven’t played — novelty value that’s hard to match in more familiar locations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How early do we need to book a tournament venue?

For a full tournament with 40+ players, plan on 6–9 months of advance work. Karibana in particular books up early for the December–March high season. Smaller corporate scrambles can move faster (3–4 months) but tournament-format events benefit from the longer runway.

Can we run the tournament across two courses?

Yes — a two-course rotation between Karibana and Club Campestre is one of the more interesting Cartagena formats. It gives players two contrasting designs (ocean-exposed Nicklaus vs traditional parkland) and adds variety to a multi-day event.

Do you handle player handicap verification?

Yes — we collect player handicap indices in advance and verify against home-club records where required by the tournament format. For international players, we work with the federation system most commonly used by their region.

What about sponsor activation on-course?

Hole sponsorships, branded tee gifts, on-course signage, and sponsor hospitality tents are all standard tournament infrastructure we coordinate with the host course. Some sponsor activations require advance approval from the club, which we manage during the planning phase.

Have you run tournaments in Cartagena before?

Tournament organization is a service we offer with the infrastructure and venue relationships in place. For the operational track record at the specific scale and format you’re considering, we’re happy to walk through it in detail on an introductory call — including references where appropriate.
